Left Hand Custom Manufactured Black 1 Ply 0.120" Acrylic Pickguard with Rounded Edge

Standard 11 Hole or Vintage 8 Hole
This is a DIY Kit Where You Will Perform The Final Sanding and Polishing of the Perimeter Edge

An OverDrive Custom Guitar Works Exclusive

A very unique feature of our custom manufactured Black 1 Ply 0.120" Acrylic pickguard is the rounded and polished edge, but this left handed black 1 ply 0.120" Acrylic pickguard does not have its perimeter edge sanded and polished, you will be performing all the final sanding and polishing of the rounded edge. This rounded edge is the same style of pickguard found on Gilmour's Black Strat® with one exception; this pickguard will not have the small slot for the recessed mini-toggle switch to protrude through, this feature has been removed from the design based on numerous customer requests.

These pickguards are manufactured on an "As Ordered" basis. There is up to 21 day build time on these pickguards.

Custom Manufactured Black 1 Ply 0.120 Acrylic Pickguard With Rounded Edge - DIY Sanding and Polishing of Edge

A black Acrylic pickguard after we created the rounded perimeter edge, this is how your pickguard edge will look unsanded and unpolished.

Each of our 1 ply 0.120” Acrylic pickguards with the rounded edge are custom manufactured in our shop specifically for each customer. They start off being cut out of a sheet of Acrylic with a CNC laser which creates the basic pickguard shape with all holes and cutouts. We then create the pickguards round-over perimeter edge effect by hand with a table router where the pickguard is affixed to a routing template where we trim the pickguard to it’s final size and create the rounded perimeter edge. From here is where you will hand sand the pickguards rounded perimeter edge with a fine sandpaper to remove any tooling marks left behind by the router bit.  Typically you should start out using a 220 grit sandpaper and then work your way to a 400 grit sandpaper, you will want to dry sand the perimeter edge, do NOT wet sand it since water will damage the brown protective backing paper. It is best to leave the brown surface protective paper affixed during the sanding of the perimeter edge, it'll protect the surfaces. The smoothly sanded rounded perimeter edge can then be polished to create the glossy rounded edge effect. You will decide how you want to shield the back side of the pickguard, shielding tape is not included, you can use either copper or aluminum foil adhesive tape, both are effective. Be sure to apply any shielding to the back side of the pickguard before you remove the brown surface protective paper from the top side of pickguard, this will prevent any damage or scratches to the surface.  Only remove the surface or top sides brown protective paper when all other steps are complete. The pickup and 5-way switch mounting holes are not countersunk and require round head mounting screws.

To clean and polish the surface of your Acrylic pickguard you will need the following are items; an old clean and very soft 100% white cotton terrycloth towel or an old clean and very soft 100% white cotton T-shirt, pressurized air can and an Acrylic cleaner such as Novus #1 "Plastic Clean and Shine" or Kleenmaster BrillianizeOn occasion you may wish to remove some fine scratches from an Acrylic pickguard and the Novus #2 "Fine Scratch Remover" is the perfect 1'st step cleaning product choice for this task followed up with Novus #1 or Kleenmaster Brillianize. The Novus #3 as a first step and then Novus #2 as a second step are good for polishing the finely sanded perimeter edge to a high gloss. For world-wide distribution and Acrylic cleaning product availability contact the manufacturers directly at Novus or Brillianize DO NOT use any other products to clean the Acrylic pickguard or you may damage it, use only products specifically approved for cleaning or polishing Acrylic.

IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are planning on using a 22 fret neck with this 0.120" thick pickguard some body and neck combinations may experience clearance issues with the 22'nd fret overhang coming in contact with the surface pickguard. However, if you can measure the clearance between the underside of your 22'nd fret overhang and the top of your current 0.90" thick 3 ply pickguard and you can measure at least 0.035" then the Black 1 Ply 0.120" Rounded and Polished Edge Acrylic pickguard should work fine. Typical automotive feeler gauges should work fine to determine this clearance or you could use an old "D" string (0.035") and see if it will slip underneath your 22'nd fret overhang, this is a simple tool that works quite effectively.

Occasionally we find very small cosmetic imperfections in the surface of our Acrylic pickguards, typically they are small bubbles or spots and sometimes thin lines. This is not something we consider as defective since they are an effect of the Acrylic casting / handling process.  Unfortunately we cannot determine if any Acrylic pickguard is going to have any of these imperfections until the entire pickguard manufacturing procedures are complete, so there is no way to pick and choose a "perfect" pickguard for a project beforehand. For the most part it's a non-issue and inconsequential and we will never let any pickguard go out that we feel has any undesirable characteristic that is obviously unacceptable.  We've made over a thousand of these pickguards and some have these characteristics and no one has yet felt the need to complain.  With that being said, we just felt it was best to make sure you were aware of these possibilities to avoid any surprises.

Typical turn-around time from order placement to shipment is up to 21 days.  Holiday work-loads sometimes may increase turn-around time, but keep in mind, we don't waste any time in getting these prepared, packed and shipped on their way to you.

Each pickguard is custom manufactured for each customer and cannot be exchanged or refunded.
